Alex Fry, Operations Manager of Heart of the South West Trading Standards Service, stated that cracking down on illegal cigarette and vape supply is a key focus of law enforcement efforts. By removing these products, it not only helps protect community safety but also supports legitimate merchants.

In July, law enforcement officers found 12000 cigarettes, 2.5 kilograms of tobacco, and nearly 1000 vapes in a hidden compartment behind the Top Market store. When checked again two months later, more illegal products were found at the same location, with the involved items worth over £ 20000.
In Taunton Market, law enforcement officers seized over 35000 cigarettes, 6.5 kilograms of tobacco, and 540 vapes from an associated apartment in July. In September, the police intercepted a vehicle transporting tobacco products to the store and seized 10260 cigarettes, 2.5 kilograms of tobacco, and 84 vapes. The total value of the seized items in the store is close to £ 30000.
The Tonton District Court pointed out that it is necessary to implement closure measures on two retail venues to prevent further criminal activities from occurring.
