Call2Recycle Canada, a Canadian battery recycling agency, is expanding its vape recycling program in Quebec, including cannabis vape devices and strengthening the safe recycling system for embedded batteries and device materials. The plan involves government departments, producers, and multiple institutions to reduce landfill and promote replicable models in other provinces of Canada.

1. The Canadian battery recycling agency has expanded its recycling scope to include cannabis vape devices and has received support from the Quebec government and Recyc-Québec;
2. To cope with the environmental pressure brought by the growth of battery driven products, more recycling points will be built to improve convenience;
3. 30 years of battery management experience will be used to promote replicable models in other provinces of Canada.

Call2Recycle Canada stated that this expansion is based on the original plan launched on January 1, 2024, and mainly responds to the waste management pressure brought about by the rapid growth of battery driven products and changes in cannabis consumption patterns, ensuring that relevant equipment is properly disposed of at the end of its lifecycle.
The organization is collaborating with vape manufacturers, vape retailers, government agencies, municipal departments, and industry stakeholders to launch a “safe and responsible” recycling program to prevent batteries and equipment components from entering landfills and provide replicable models for future promotion across Canada.
Joe Zenobio, President and CEO of Call2Recycle Canada, stated that as the market continues to evolve, recycling solutions must also be updated accordingly. Whether it is household batteries or new product embedded battery. The mission of the organization is always to provide safe, convenient, and validated recycling pathways. He pointed out that with nearly 30 years of battery management experience, Call2Recycle hopes to help Quebec achieve its waste reduction goals through innovative projects.

The institution introduced that the expanded “Recycle Your Vapes” program has strengthened the collection and processing of embedded batteries, as well as recyclable materials such as metals and plastics. The plan was developed by Call2Recycle in collaboration with manufacturers, government agencies, and Crown Company, and is being promoted in partnership with the Quebec Department of Environment, Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks, the Department of Health and Social Services, Recyc-Québec, and other stakeholders.
At present, the project is expanding the recycling network throughout the province to enhance convenience for adult consumers. The participating locations will be equipped with specially designed recycling containers to ensure safe use and will continue to increase in the future. Once the equipment is collected, partners will classify and recycle the batteries and other components, extract reusable materials from them, and ensure their proper disposal.
