According to WLFI, Republican Senator Ron Alting of Indiana is pushing for legislation to ban all foreign made vape products from being sold in state vape shops and limit the range of products available for sale to “Made in the United States”. The proposal is Senate Bill 185 (SB 185), and the legislative direction is described as aimed at enhancing consumer safety.
Alting stated that one of his focus areas is products from China, as China currently holds a significant supply in vape stores.
He also cited industry information stating that China produces over 90% of the world’s vape hardware.
Alting believes that some of these products may contain illegal or unregulated chemicals, posing potential health risks, and stated that the related products “should not appear in vape stores”. He also said that some products are not even sold domestically in China, but they will be exported to the United States and enter store channels.
SB 185 was unanimously approved by the Senate Public Policy Committee on January 14th.

According to the procedure, the bill will enter the Senate Appropriations Committee for further review. Alting also stated that if the bill is ultimately enacted, law enforcement officers will have clearer tools for monitoring and regulating vape retail stores within the state.
