Why My Vape Got Bitter Taste Burnt

Many vapors having a problem. A nice vape in hand. But after a few times using. The vape got burnt or bitter taste.

And this happen again when buy a new one. Why?

Do you usually use paper to clean the air coil when a little liquid into your mouth? When you smoking, the liquid will be into your mouth some times. This can not be stop.

And then, you probably use a tissue paper stretch into the air hole(the one of heating coil). You want clean the liquid. Then, there are 2 situations happens:

1.If you stretch too deep. The tissue paper will touch the heating coil. At this moment, the heating coil usually very high temperature. Because you are just have finished a smoking. In this situation, the tissue paper got burnt a little. Also remain burnt on heating coil . For only 1 or 2 times, you dont have much bitter taste feeling when you smoking. As the heating coil still working OK. But for many times, the vape is fully bitter taste dur to reason of the heating coil got burnt.

2.If you stretch not too much deep. Only clean liquid outside, no touching heating coil. Then, no problem. You are doing right way.

For the vape device issues as following:

1. Burnt or Old Coil
Why?

Overused or dry-burned coils can produce a bitter, burnt taste.

Sweet e-liquids caramelize on coils, making them gunk up faster.

Fix:
✅ Replace the coil (or pod if disposable).
✅ Prime a new coil properly by soaking it in e-liquid for 10+ minutes before use.

2. E-Liquid Issues
A. Expired or Oxidized E-Liquid
Nicotine degrades over time, turning bitter.

Exposure to light/heat speeds up oxidation.

Fix:
✅ Check the expiration date.
✅ Store e-liquid in a cool, dark place.

B. High Nicotine or Harsh PG Ratio
High nicotine (e.g., 50mg salt nic) can taste peppery/bitter.

High PG (above 50%) may feel harsh.

Fix:
✅ Try a lower nicotine strength (e.g., switch from 50mg to 25mg).
✅ Use a balanced 50/50 PG/VG or higher-VG liquid.

C. Bad Flavor or Cheap E-Liquid
Some flavors (e.g., coffee, tobacco, citrus) have natural bitterness.

Low-quality e-liquids may taste off.

Fix:
✅ Switch to a different flavor (e.g., fruity/dessert flavors are smoother).
✅ Buy from reputable brands.

3. Device Problems
A. Wattage Too High/Low
Too high = burnt taste.

Too low = weak vapor + bitter/unvaporized juice.

Fix:
✅ Adjust wattage to the coil’s recommended range (check coil specs).

B. Dirty Device or Residue
Old e-liquid residue or debris can cause bad taste.

Fix:
✅ Clean the tank/pod with warm water (let it dry fully).
✅ For disposables, try gently blowing into the mouthpiece to clear excess juice.

C. Leaking or Flooded Coil
Excess e-liquid in the coil (“gurgling”) can taste bitter.

Fix:
✅ Remove excess juice with a paper towel.
✅ Increase wattage slightly to vaporize the excess.

4. Vaper’s Tongue (Flavor Fatigue)
Vaping the same flavor for too long can dull taste buds, making flavors taste bitter or bland.

Fix:
✅ Switch flavors for a few days.
✅ Drink more water, brush your tongue, or try menthol to reset taste.
